Varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency is often referred to simply dilated veins. This is a common disease of working age people. Varicose develops when due to the venous valve insufficiency blood starts flowing in the reverse direction, accumulation of excessive blood amounts and expansion of superficial leg veins appears. Patients often complain with the pain in legs, especially the calves, sensation of heaviness and swelling of the legs. As the disease progresses, changes in skin pigmentation occur as dark shades of brown, night cramps, visible varicose veins, bumps and pain.

Dry chestnut extract has long been known as venotonic to treat varicose veins and symptoms typical of this disease, as well as prevention of leg veins.
